Chin Yang Yu (“Rex”)

I was born in Taipei, Taiwan and received my master degree in Material Chemistry from Fu Jen Catholic University in Taipei 1999. After two years air force service as a corporal and two years work experience in polymer research institute as an associate researcher, I then moved to UK to study my PhD under the supervision of Prof. Michael. L. Turner at the Organic Materials Innovation Center, School of Chemistry, University of Manchester. My PhD studies mainly focused on the synthesis, characterization and application of conjugated homopolymers and block copolymers. Ring-opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP) was used to obtain well-defined polyphenylenevinylenes. The living character of the polymerization enabled the preparation of conjugated block copolymers with good control of the molecular weight distribution. In August 2008, I joined Prof. Turner’s and Dr. Saunders’s group for the development of donor and acceptor block copolymers for organic solar cell application.
